Oh God 03:36
We’re hungry for wisdom We’re hungry for love We’re hungry for truth, Light from above Peace when we want it Lovers and friends And stay always honest Have money to spend We’re hungry for sex Sleep and time off Hungry for fat, Sugar and salt, Fools for attention Pleasure and space Fashion and riches One life of grace Jealousy sucks Fidelity’s impossible Nirvana is perfect But nothing is pure Half full or half empty Depends on your taste Passion and fantasy More time to waste Be and become You are who you will be But what is the question When Time has no answer? There’s polar attraction And them versus us Reaching the top Destiny stops Loving and striving Building up walls We learn from the elements Then destiny calls Experience drives us But fictions survive Comedy, tragedy Truth where it lies

Settled in a corner booth Staring at the rain Borrowed money borrowed time Trying to catch a break Settle up now or later No more grieving while we wait A roast of jokes Songs of tonic Thinking ’bout the time we waste And dreaming of a life to make us whole again Breaks are bust and a cold wind blows Miles from being good Spools of dust Fools for lust Minds misunderstood Singers in a church at night Hollering at the moon A lullaby from Paris A torch song for the tortured Thinking ‘bout the time we waste And dreaming of a world to make us home again Dream on dream Dreams we travel bad Cluster like the birds at night And scream ourselves in half Sidle up Synthesize, Time’s our song, and time’s our song Thinking ‘bout the time we waste And dreaming of a love to make us whole again Time’s a song we have to sing Dreaming of a love that makes us whole again Makes us whole again How much time is on you mind memory in your case? How much time is all your money? How much to call me honey? Hustled like a power grabber Came out with the goods Slips of paper Call me later Time’s a song we have to sing And dreaming of a world to make us whole again Married me a mother’s daughter. Told her I’d be good But she’s really daddy’s martyr And I’m a social idiot Tied me up in their fancy suits I killed their dreams for good A lullaby from hell A torch lit for the tortured Time’s a song We have to sing And dreaming of a life to make us whole again Time’s our song and Time’s our song and Time’s our song and Time’s our song and Time’s a song We have to sing And dreaming of a love to make us whole again,

Stories that we told Groping in the backseat Trying to get over One another’s phobias I looked for words Make you laugh I told all the jokes I know Trying to make you laugh It was raining out Roads were slick as lightning Trying just to be so cool and intelligent, Truth were told, I can’t stand the test I was out of compliments, Trying to make you laugh All the lies I told To see how far we’d go All the foolish moves Trying to make you laugh Smoking cigarettes Drinking cans of warm beer Laughing, thinking that I’d Truly lost my mind I’m more gone than you’d ever guess I should send you an email Sending my regrets

On m’a aidé. Je ne sais pas, Je ne sais pas. Oui, je travaille maintenant, un peu comme autrefois, Seulement je ne sais plus travailler. Je ne sais pas, Je ne sais pas.

One says yes Two says no Three says maybe Four says So Two has problems Three won’t tell you Four says One shouldn’t Always be, so slow First to know Last to go One goes that way Two stays home Three is selfish Four is blue All four think they are Faster than Faster than fast Practice modern Psychology Own electric technology Oh no There’s another one Oh no Just like the other one Learning lessons for their lives Being better in their eyes They look and act and talk so nice Bred to be bred Better in red A grin more or less Is the best you’ll get Best you'll get Practice modern Psychology Own the latest technology Oh no There’s another one Oh no Just like the other

Seems to me There are times for getting over it Without trashing the room Looks to me There are ways When you can say those things And not burn from it all These are the times When you count the clock The clicks in your head Ticking your thoughts These are the times Seems to me There are words that say all those things you can say without pain Looks to me There are accidents greater than Those that call out the names Colder than ice and the blackest night the moonless nights Heartless words These are the times Reasons for and answers for Looking for the reasoned reason Answers for the madness Just so that you get even These are the times when you count the clock The clicks in your head Ticking your thoughts These are the times These are the times

The girl in the see-through dress Made me such a mess With her delicious look I had to look again Or was it just pretend And I was dreaming She came with whispering eyes And asked to my surprise If I’d been cast away I told her I could swim She said let’s go in Let’s leave this place behind Gonna pass the time away Gonna pass the time away Only dreaming The lights they fell within She hit me with a grin And then we ricocheted Like waves along the shore I followed to the door And then she tore it off Oh dream, dream, walking away To while away the time Gonna pass the time away Gonna pass the time away Only dreaming Night was well tucked in We passed it with a grin And then we slipped away Drove on through the miles From night to night we whiled along like castaways Only dreaming …

Bring back those long strayed eyes Bring back the time you would forgive me Bring back the words I can’t forget And the hope that once lay me before Bring back your love Bring back your love Bring back those Long strayed eyes Days I often wonder About the times I’ve wasted before The nights I wander remotely Mornings I never open the door The hole in my heart Tears me apart Bring back those Long strayed eyes Bring back your love Bring back your love Bring back those Long strayed eyes My thoughts are haunted by pictures Chances I had and ignored Time cured you faster than it did me The image holds me captive and remote The look in your eye The looks in your eyes Bring back those long Bring back those long Bring back those Long strayed eyes

If to Be like What it Feels like To be The you You say You are, Can you Be that “Who” You are That is What others see? Not that Anything That matters Is everything That’s meant Or matters But who You are Might be What seems To others The you They know. Which would Be lucky For you And them And those Who assume You are Who Or what You say And who They hear And who They see And what You mean. Each On equal Footing.

about

"Recordings arise out of necessity. Why does anyone record anything, take a picture, sign a document? This recording came together from my personal connection with Cedrick Eyemenier of Coriolis Sounds and a mutual interest in music and art. I had songs, he had a label. I sent him a selection. He made a choice. I rehearsed 14 songs for two afternoons with Canadian drummer Marty Vickers and Australian bassist Gerard McFadden, upright and electric. I didn’t tell them what to play or how to play the songs. We live in Paris. Cedrick’s from Montpellier. Then for two days Arnaud Bascuñana at No-B Music, in Paris, separated us into rooms and clearly and accurately recorded the basic tracks — vocals and instruments. The sound was excellent. On a third day I added a few guitar tracks and Gerard and my daughter Emma joined me in the backing vocals. Emma sang the lead on Je ne sais pas, which I cobbled together from the first paragraph of Samuel Beckett’s Molloy, originally written in French and published in 1951 and Hank Williams’ melody in “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” from 1949. Cedrick’s English friend James S. Taylor, who also lives in Montpellier and is half of the house duo, Swayzak, took apart the basic tracks, added percussion, more drums, keyboards, and harmonium, and transformed the songs, asking me to speak an number of them, which I’d never done before, while both focusing on and expanding the songs themselves. We reduced the songs to 10. Gerard took those rough mixes and added more bass tracks along with bowed bass which appears in many of the songs. Stephan Mathieu of Schwebung Mastering polished James’s artful mixes and these are the results. I didn’t tell anyone what they should do. It was a total collaboration, I happened to be the one with the songs and words. We made it together." Jeff Rian
